If you aren’t interested in multiplayer or zombies, wait until you can find it for $25 or less.'Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War preloads start November 6. ![]() What you’re left with in the end is a bizarre sequel to BO/prequel to BO2 that feels like a half-baked, underdeveloped regression from Modern Warfare, and an unnecessary companion to the original Black Ops games that, while still being adequate mindless fun, is bogged down by the new cast doing weak impressions of classic characters and a painfully short length. The bulk of the campaign is the usual barrage of set pieces and shootouts, occasionally broken up by a slow walk-n’-talk segment or the game’s standout mission that plays like Walmart-brand Hitman. The game tries some neat stuff with code breaking and a tiny hub, but it’s all very undercooked and mostly perfunctory. This is set in the mainline Black Ops continuity, and the cast changes really negatively impact the experience. This isn’t like Modern Warfare ‘19 where the recasting of classic characters made sense given that it was a reboot of the series, entirely unconnected to the original Modern Warfare trilogy. Different voice actors playing characters like Woods and Mason throw the entire vibe off and the new characters are mostly unmemorable fodder with the only exception being Adler, a pretty fun new addition to the series. ![]() Cold War feels like a straight-to-DVD sequel to Black Ops 1. ![]()
